Ship Parts
Next up is the Ship Parts tab under the Refinery section. You get to the Ship Parts tab by clicking on the Refinery button in the upper left of the main screen (Figure 105). NOTE: The Ship Parts tab only becomes available once you unlock Grade 4 ships. In this tab you can refine broken parts for refined parts which are used to upgrade Grade 4 ships.
Broken Parts are received from defeating hostiles in Deep Space systems. Defeating hostile interceptors will give you “Broken Parts - Interceptor” (Figure 107), defeating hostile explorers will give you “Broken Parts - Explorer” (Figure 108), defeating hostile battleships will give you “Broken Parts - Battleship” (Figure 109), and defeating hostile survey ships will give you “Broken Parts - Survey” (Figure 110). Once obtained, these Broken Parts can be refined in this tab to receive Refined Parts for each type of ship. The Refined Parts are then used to upgrade your Grade 4 Explorers, Interceptors, Battleships, and Survey ships respectively.
Once you have Grade 4 ships and access to this tab of the Refinery section, you can easily obtain the required Broken Parts during your Daily Goals as discussed in the Daily Goals of this article. As explained in the Materials section of this article, I have found that I have consistently received better rewards on average by selecting the two-chest option if I have enough Broken Parts to select the two-chest option. You should also beware that the cost of these chest options increases disproportionately (Figure 107, Figure 108, Figure 109, and Figure 110).
Lastly, as you can see in Figure 111, once you refine each of the Broken Part types the reset timer is 10 hours in duration. This makes it somewhat challenging to refine Broken Parts on a timely basis for optimal refining. With that in mind, I will refine when the option becomes available while I am logged into the game; but I do not make a special effort to log in every 10 hours. This follows a strategy of Resource Management which will be discussed in a future article.
